TherapyforLatinx.com launched on May 3rd, 2018.
What does the word Latinx mean?
Latinx is the gender-neutral alternative to Latino, Latina and even [email protected] Used by scholars, activists and an increasing number of journalists, Latinx is quickly gaining popularity among the general public. It’s part of a “linguistic revolution” that aims to move beyond gender binaries and is inclusive of the intersecting identities of Latin American descendants. In addition to men and women from all racial backgrounds, Latinx also makes room for people who are trans, queer, agender, non-binary, gender non-conforming or gender fluid.
How do you verify therapists?
Once a therapist submits their listing we review all the information provided, check out their website, look for reviews online or red flags. Once that clears we proceed to verify that the license is active and valid for that specific state. You can simply do a Google search “therapist license lookup ________(state of your choice)”. Lastly we do our best to talk over the phone or in person with therapists to make sure we are both mutually a good fit.
I can’t find a therapist, where else do you recommend I look?
Our database is created by the submissions we receive. We don’t have a list of every Latinx or culturally sensitive therapist. Our mission is to be a resource for our community. Go wherever you need to go to find the right therapists for your needs. Usually the most practical advice we give is to call 211 in your state and usually they can give you the closest mental health resources to you. Otherwise here are some great options:
